Services
Below are a list of the services we provide.
Individual therapy – Clients calling our office are typically interested in either individual, couples, family therapy or group therapy/support groups. All services that we offer usually begin with a description of the presenting problems that triggered setting up the appointment. This is typically followed by a general history-taking and a specific inquiry into the history of the presenting problem. A treatment plan is then formulated, with a rough estimation of how long it may take to address the problem, and the frequency of sessions to follow. The focus of most adult individual therapy is the resolution of troubling symptoms that are interfering with one’s quality of life, in the areas of relationships, work, sleep, or leisure.
Couples therapy is usually conducted with both clients in the room at the same time, although there are special circumstances where individual meetings are also scheduled. “The client” in these circumstances is usually the relationship itself, with treatment efforts geared toward repairing and strengthening the bond that has been neglected, compromised, or injured.
Family therapy is usually offered by one or two therapist to an entire family of any size. “The Client” in these cases is the entire family. A frequent assumption is that something in the way the family operates may be inadvertently, but significantly contributing to symptoms being displayed by a particular family member.
Christian Counseling – People calling this office are sometimes interested in finding ways that their personal faith can have an impact on their presenting problems. This is often the case when they have been referred here by their pastor, priest or small group leader. However, even if this is not the case, during the history-taking phase of treatment, should it become clear that a client’s personal faith played a significant role in helping them through a past difficulty, we would likely inquire if they would be interested in tapping those spiritual resources to address their present concerns.
EMDR Therapy – Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic technique that was developed to bring about emotional healing at an accelerated rate. Research began in 1989 after its founder, psychologist Francine Shapiro, Ph.D., informally observed that certain eye movements could help reduce emotional tension.
Patient Advocacy – A patient advocate helps individuals and families navigate their way through complicated medical decisions. When a family receives an unexpected, complicated, or troublesome diagnosis, it can be extremely confusing and disorienting.
Public Speaking – All members of our professional staff have made presentations to area community groups, including medical and dental practices, school districts, small and large church gatherings, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), singles groups, and domestic violence prevention groups.
